Hi everybody!
Last weekend my family and I had a crawish boil at my Grandparents camp in Belle River. All of my Mom's family was there. It was great!!! The crawfish weren't that spicy, they were good and not much was left over. My Dad also recently fried some froglegs and for those who don't know they taste just like chicken! Maybe a little bit chewier than chicken. Here are some pictues!!!

Hi everybody,  Happy Mardi Gras! My family had its first crawfish boil of the season on Monday, they were awesome and very spicy!  On Tuesday, we visited Parrains. My servers name was Simone. She was great! I had some fried alligator for an appetizer and some oysters for the second time. I still like the taste of the sea. The alligator tastes a little like chicken. For my entree I had a black and bleu tuna. It was blackend tuna on top of bleu cheese linguine. It was moist and cooked well. We had a great time on Fat Tuesday, see pictures below.  My sister, Ellie is going to guest blog today about another place we visited on Tuesday, check out what she has to say below!

For those observing Lent don't forget my potato soup minus the bacon makes a great option for "no meat" Friday's.

Hi my name is Ellie.  I am seven years old and I am happy to blog today. On Tuesday we had beignets from Rue Beignet in Baton Rouge.  They were hot and made me think of being in New Orleans.  We had two different kinds, the regular shaped beignet and beignet fingers, which are really cool, especially for kids. Hope your able to visit them real soon, I know I will be back!

Bye,

Ellie

Hey everybody sorry I haven't blogged in a while. You can blame school!!! I had my first oyster at ACME Oyster House!!! It literally tasted like the sea!!! It was like edible sea! Plus their crab claws are awesome! The service was great, but I forgot the server's name! SORRY! But whoever she was she was great.

I also went to TJ Rib's. It was delicous. Our server's name was Emileigh (awsome spelling!). She was great!!!! I had  brisket, rib's, and mojos. We also brought my freind, Dawson. He also enjoyed his visit and his food!!!

Friday Night Dinner

This past Friday, I made my own menu and had my family over. Instead of going to a restaurant I created a restaurant!!! They picked something on the menu and my Dad and I cooked it. The menu is posted below.  I had a lot of fun but it was a lot of hard work being the waiter, busboy, and the chef!

Italian night

Hey Everybody!

Last weekend my Dad and I cooked Italian veal skewers.  They  were great!  We got the recipe idea from Mario Batali (see below).  We pounded the veal and put prosciutto and a sage leaf inside.  We rolled them up and put them on the skewers.  Watch your fingers, the points are sharp!  It was my first time tasting veal, the outside was magnificent.  They didn't take long to cook so that was good.   It was my first time tasting prosciutto also, it was awesome.  We had some fresh ribbon pasta with a sauce.  The noodles were very long and wide.  You can take the meat off the skewer after or dig in like I did and leave them on.  There are some pictures below to see the finished product.

Italian Veal Skewers

Serves 4-6

4 veal cutlets (scallopini)
8 thin slices of prosciutto
Sage
Italian Parsley
4 Tbsp unsalted butter
Olive oil
4 skewers (soaked for at least 30 minutes)

Cut veal in to 4 pieces each and add lightly salt and pepper. Place sage and prosciutto on each piece and roll jelly roll style. Skewer each piece 4 to skewer. Heat oil and butter in sauté pan. Saute skewers for 10 minutes turning frequently.

We served this with pasta and a simple tomato sauce. Enjoy!

Hi, yesterday my Dad and I went to Pimyanoli's. It's a barbeque restaurant in Baton rouge. It was really good. They have a great kid's menu, including ribs. For an appetizer, I had chicken wings that were spicy, smokey, and tasty. I had brisket and mac & cheese for my main dish. The brisket was a little dry, but with the sauce on the table it was awesome. Thanks to our server, Ms. Amanda. She was really nice.

Happy New Year!

Hi, everybody,
This past weekend I went to New Orleans. I went to Mona Lisa's, Cafe Beignet, and The Somethin Else Cafe again. I couldn't stay away from them.
A new restaurant I went to was The American Sector. The owner is John Besh. My server was Byron. He was really nice. The restaurant was next to the World War 2 museum. It's really kid friendly. What I wanted to try was their mac & cheese. I'm glad I did! The mac & cheese was served in old fashioned lunch box. The mac & cheese was on top of a mountain of fries. The fries were on news paper which I thought was cool. The mac & cheese was really cheesy and gooey, just the way I like it!
Another restaurant I went to was Irene's. It was packed. We waited an hour to be seated. So we decided to leave and went to Mona Lisa's. My advice to you is get a reservation!!! It did look great so we will definitely try it next time.
We also did some Christmas activities. We did caroling at Jackson Square, saw Santa, snow and real reindeer at Fulton Street and rode rides and saw all the Christmas lights at City Park!! I hope your family has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
